Polica. “On behalf of the Angelo Vassallo Foundation, President Dario Vassallo forcefully denounces a long series of serious and deliberate acts perpetrated by the mayor of Pollica, Stefano Pisani, which aim to erase the memory of Angelo Vassallo and undermine the credibility of the Foundation.
Faced with this intolerable and disrespectful conduct, we ask for the immediate resignation of the mayor and an urgent intervention by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi.
Mayor Pisani has demonstrated on several occasions his desire to destroy any connection with the memory of the “Fisherman Mayor”, starting with the devastation a few years ago of the Oasi del Giglio Marino, a protected area on the beach of Acciaroli dedicated to Angelo Vassallo, a symbol of environmental protection and civil commitment.
This space, intended to honor his memory and raise awareness of the protection of nature, was brutally destroyed, erasing a gesture of respect towards the territory and towards those who gave their lives to defend it.
Subsequently, the Foundation was evicted from the room it occupied in the Capano Castle in Pollica, a significant place purchased by the Vassallo administration to be a community asset. The room, used by the Foundation to carry out projects and initiatives in memory of Angelo, was taken away and the castle was entrusted to the private company Future for Food of Sara Roversi for management.
This act represents a betrayal towards the community, which has seen a space for memory and reflection taken away, handing it over to private interests and erasing a symbolic point of reference for the citizens.
No less serious was the abandonment of the carob tree planted in the port of Acciaroli, dedicated to Angelo as a sign of rebirth and continuity. Left to die of thirst, this gesture represents an offense not only to the memory of Angelo, but also to the value of a symbol deeply rooted in the culture of the territory.
A deliberate choice that demonstrates indifference and contempt for the memory of those who dedicated their lives to the good of the community. Even the Big Wave, an installation made with 2.500 recycled plastic bottles to raise awareness against marine pollution, was destroyed without any consideration for its educational and symbolic meaning.
This gesture reveals a total lack of interest in the environmental issues so dear to Angelo and in the message of ecological responsibility that the work conveyed". The President of the Angelo Vassallo Foundation, Mayor Fisherman Dario Vassallo, denounced it.
“In addition to these concrete actions, Mayor Pisani has also chosen to publicly mock the Foundation and the pain of the Vassallo family. On September 5, 2024, through some media, he ridiculed our commitment to finding the truth about Angelo's death, demonstrating a lack of respect that offends not only our family, but the entire community that still asks for justice.
Finally, the recent parliamentary question presented by Senator Gianluca Cantalamessa to the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, raises extremely serious questions regarding the conduct of Mayor Pisani and his role in diverting attention from the search for the truth.
His action has called into question the honesty and transparency of the local administration, and a systematic attempt to sabotage our work and our commitment appears increasingly evident. In light of these facts, the Angelo Vassallo Foundation firmly calls for the mayor's resignation Stefano Pisani, responsible for a continuous and insidious attack on the memory of Angelo Vassallo.
His actions are an offense to truth, justice and the community that Angelo loved and served with passion. We also ask for the immediate intervention of the Minister of the Interior Piantedosi, so that light is shed on what happened and respect is restored for the memory of Angelo Vassallo, a man and mayor who dedicated his life to the good of his territory” - concludes Vassallo.
