Cilento – “If you elect Pisani, it will be a political war”: This is the harsh warning launched by Dario Vassallo, President of the Angelo Vassallo Sindaco Pescatore Foundation, in an open letter addressed to the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein.
Article Key Points
At the center of the clash, the election of the new President of the Community of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, scheduled for next Monday. Dario Vassallo, brother of the late Angelo Vassallo - the former mayor of Pollica brutally murdered on September 5, 2010 - took the opportunity to denounce what he calls a serious institutional anomaly.
“The election of the President of the Park Community must represent a moment of reflection on the future of the territory and on the dignity of this institution. This position was held by my brother, Angelo, until his tragic murder. After him, for six long years, it was entrusted to a mayor of the PD with the qualification of 'Acting': a shameful situation, an insult to the memory of Angelo and to the dignity of the institutions”.
The presidency of the Park Community, explains Vassallo, is in the hands of the majority of the mayors of the area, many of whom are expressions of the Democratic party. But it is against the possible nomination of Stefano Pisani that Vassallo lashes out most harshly: "Without mincing words, if this individual is elected, we will unleash an unprecedented 'political war'. We will not accept further abuses and palace maneuvers that betray my brother's sacrifice and respect for this land." According to Vassallo, the Democratic Party would be called upon to make a choice of great responsibility, but the political maneuvers in progress seem to betray the values of good administration and legality.
A Call for Legality and Justice
Dario Vassallo strongly reaffirmed the Angelo Vassallo Foundation's commitment to justice and legality, values that Mayor Pescatore had embodied with his work and his vision of sustainable development for Cilento. "We will not let ourselves be cornered. If they think they can pass this nomination in silence, they are very wrong. Respect for this land and for those who defended it with their blood cannot be trampled by the logic of power."
