"This is a long-awaited project, crucial for the restoration of the San Lorenzo Maggiore Monumental Complex and for the entire UNESCO World Heritage Site of the historic center. It will bring overall benefits to the city's cultural and tourist offerings, completing one of the many unfinished projects," said Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, speaking at the start of work on the San Lorenzo Maggiore complex, which houses the historical archives of the City of Naples.
The intervention, they explain from Palazzo San Giacomo, is part of the Great Historic Centre Project of Napoli - Enhancement of the UNESCO site and is funded with approximately €2 million from the Institutional Development Contract of the Fund for Development and Cohesion. The project includes the restoration of the basilica's façade, which is owned by the Archbishop's Curia, the structural consolidation of the rooms of the old convent, which are owned by the municipality, and the reconfiguration of the entrance courtyard.
The estimated time for completing the works is approximately one year.

"Finally," Lieto emphasized, "the restoration of the basilica's façade will proceed, after ten years of scaffolding, but no work was underway. We have resolved this situation and also begun work on the Historical Archives inside San Lorenzo. This is a quintessential site of the ancient city. We are in a monumental context of extraordinary architectural, historical, and archaeological importance.
We have invested a lot of attention in this place, and the start of the work is also an opportunity to rethink the regeneration of the entire surrounding area. "These works have been long-awaited. It's a problem we inherited," Pepe explained, "but we can proudly say that this administration has resolved it. One of the most beautiful facades of the city's sacred buildings will be returned to the community and tourists as soon as possible."

Finally work is starting on this important monument, but I don't know if the work will be finished in the promised time. Let's hope that everything goes well and that tourists can enjoy it soon. But construction sites in the city are always a problem.
