A series of arson attacks shook the tranquility of Portici and Ercolano yesterday evening, Tuesday 1 April. Thanks to the prompt intervention of the State Police, a 20-year-old was arrested on charges of having set several fires.

The agents of the Portici-Ercolano Police Station intervened in Lauzieres square in Portici, following the report of a fire that had engulfed a clothing collection bin used and damaged a car parked nearby.
The Fire Brigade, already busy putting out the flames, informed the officers of a previous minor fire happened shortly before Herculaneum.
The police immediately started looking for the person responsible and, when they arrived, Via delle Madonnelle in Ercolano, they surprised the young man while he was setting fire to some waste in the middle of the road.

Il pyromaniac, found in possession of a lighter, was immediately stopped. Subsequent investigations, supported by images from the video surveillance systems in the area, confirmed his involvement in the fire at Piazzale de Lauzieres.
The 20-year-old was arrested and will face charges of arson. The timely intervention of law enforcement prevented the flames from spreading further, putting people and homes at risk.
