The exercise in preparation for the Jubilee at the Rome Ostiense train station ended around 1:40 this morning. The scenario involved an accident with fire on board a train, with various degrees of injuries who were treated directly on the platforms: 118 created an advanced medical station to assist patients and send them to hospitals, while the uninjured and in shock were assisted by psychologists from the Civil Protection. About twenty hospitals were involved in the exercise. About a thousand people were involved, including law enforcement, health workers and civil protection.
Wound Management
The second phase of the exercise took place in the hospitals, with the management of the wounded and medical emergencies. “We respected the times we gave ourselves for the intervention – comments Prefect Giannini – the wounded were stabilized, and they were sent to the hospitals. From an initial assessment, we are satisfied with how the advanced medical station was set up and also with the fact that, within an hour, it was possible to visit and stabilize all the wounded”.
“It is important that the machine works this evening with these light and weather conditions,” declared General Carlo Catalano, Inspector General of Military Health.
Coordination and Logistics
Overall, the entire exercise ended at 3.00:XNUMX am. The full-scale simulation was organized and coordinated by the Prefect of Rome with the support of the Inspector General of Military Health and saw the active participation of the main institutional components of the Civil Protection and Security system of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital. The exercise scenario took place at the Ostiense railway station, made available by the FS Group - Ferrovie dello Stato, with the collaboration of FS security spa and Trenitalia, which provided the train.
Objectives and Safety
The choice of Ostiense station was dictated by strategic reasons related to the significant influx of travelers expected for the Jubilee of 2025. The night time schedule increased the difficulty level of the exercise. The activation of the chain of command occurred with the first alert issued by Nue 112 around midnight, allowing the Police to ensure safe management of the simulated emergency procedures. The technical and medical rescue operations were supported by the participation of over seventy volunteers from the Italian Red Cross and the Ente Roma Capitale.

The exercise at Ostiense station seems to have been well organized, but there were a lot of people involved. The management of the wounded was a critical part, and I hope everything went well as planned.
