An Imaginary Epic
The film offers an imaginary narrative of William Shakespeare and his supposed connection to Naples. Published by Einaudi in 2002, the story explores Shakespeare's fantastic journey to Sicily between dreams and reality, with elements that blend Elizabethan drama with Baroque culture. The adventure follows Desiderio, played by Alessandro Preziosi, and his companion Zoroastro, played by Giovanni Esposito. The two embark on an adventure full of mystery and betrayal, which crosses history and literature.
Cast and Production
The cast boasts the participation of actors of the caliber of Jacopo Rampini, Elio De Capitani, Peppe Servillo and Emanuele Zappariello. The film version was enriched by costumes by Carlo Poggioli and music composed by Marco Betta and Ivo Parlati. The scenography is the work of Paolo Iammarrone and Vincenzo Fiorillo, while Antonio Di Domenico was the director of photography. Produced by Teatro Segreto with Visioni Segrete Film, and supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Campania Region, the film was shot in suggestive locations in Campania including Naples and Palinuro.

I've heard mixed reviews about 'Shakespea-King of Naples'. Many say the story is interesting but it might be difficult to follow for those who don't know Shakespeare well. It will be interesting to see how it is received by the public.
