Naples – The new model of separate waste collection will start in March and will affect the Spanish Neighborhoods, the Old Town and the Shopping Centre, involving approximately 80 thousand citizens.
The project, called “Napoli different in the heart”, is promoted by the Municipality of Naples and Asia, in collaboration with Conai, and aims to standardize the door-to-door collection system to improve the efficiency of the service and control by the authorities.
From February 17, information kits will be distributed and the collection will be implemented in three phases: from March 24 in the Spanish Quarters (14.400 households and 1.900 commercial activities), from April 28 in the Old Town (14.000 households and 1.800 commercial activities) and from May 26 in the Shopping Centre (1.900 households and 480 commercial activities).
“We want to improve urban decorum and make the collection method homogeneous in a varied territory,” declared the councilor for Urban Hygiene, Vincenzo Santagada. The plan includes the progressive removal of street collection equipment to restore conditions of greater hygiene, optimize the distribution of operational teams and increase the quantity of differentiated waste by 15%.
The collection schedule for households includes: paper and cardboard on Monday, non-recyclable waste on Tuesday and Saturday, organic waste on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. For plastic and metal, collection will vary based on neighborhoods. For commercial activities, restaurants will have daily collections for organic waste, while fruit and vegetables and bars will benefit from frequent collections for organic waste and glass.
Multi-material will be collected every evening for restaurants, bars and clothing stores, with cardboard collection from Monday to Saturday at closing time.
The presentation of the plan was also attended by the vice director of Conai, Fabio Costarella, and the president of Legambiente Campania, Mariateresa Imparato. “Respecting the rules is essential,” Santagada emphasized, “so that the city can win this challenge and improve the quality of life of all citizens.”
