Pozzuoli – Work has begun on the removal of the historic disused railway line in the centre of Pozzuoli. By the end of the year, the Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV) will dismantle the route no longer in use, creating a new road that will also serve as an escape route in the event of a bradyseismic emergency.
The project, whose construction site began on March 10, was illustrated today by the mayor of Pozzuoli, Luigi Manzoni, and the president of EAV, Umberto De Gregorio, during a meeting at the municipal headquarters of Rione Terra, in the presence of approximately 50 citizens.
The project – technically called “Dismantling of the historic line, redevelopment of the roadbed and connecting roads for the Dazio-Gerolomini-Cantieri section” – is part of the broader modernization plan for the Cumana railway and includes doubling the tracks to improve the efficiency of the service.
At the request of the municipal administration, an emergency procedure will be adopted for the elimination of the two railway underpasses by June 2025 and the decommissioning of the former route, on which the new road artery between the Gerolomini and Pozzuoli stations will be built.
The project is divided into two phases: the first, already underway with an investment of 8 million euros, will lead to the construction of a straight road equipped with parking spaces, in line with the existing urban context.
The second, worth 20 million euros, includes the creation of a green area equipped with parking, in harmony with the Villa Comunale and the archaeological site of the Macellum – Temple of Serapis.

It's a good thing that work is starting to remove the railway line that is no longer needed, but I hope that the work will not cause too much inconvenience to citizens and that it will be finished on time as promised by the mayor.
