Naples – Alessio Tucci, the 18-year-old who confessed to the murder of Martina Carbonaro, the 14-year-old killed in Afragola a few days ago, remains in prison.
The investigating judge of the Court of Naples North validated the arrest and ordered the precautionary measure of custody in prison, considering that there were serious indications of guilt and the risk of repetition of the crime.
The validation hearing was held this morning in the Neapolitan prison of Poggioreale, where the young man has been locked up since his arrest. Tucci is accused of aggravated murder, including cruelty, and concealment of a corpse.
According to his lawyer, Mario Mangazzo, during the interrogation Tucci said he had sought physical contact with Martina.
“I tried to hug her, but she refused – the 18-year-old said –. Then I hit her with a stone while her back was turned.”. Subsequently, with the same boulder, he allegedly struck two more blows. Once he had ascertained that the young woman was no longer showing signs of life, Tucci allegedly turned the body over and covered the corpse with some furniture already present inside the abandoned farmhouse, which later became the scene of the tragic crime.
During the hearing, the young man said he was distressed and remorseful. “He can’t sleep,” his lawyer explained. “He is deeply affected and aware of the gravity of his actions. He apologized to Martina’s family and to his own parents.” The defense attorney also raised doubts about the compatibility of detention in Poggioreale, considering it an unsafe and unsuitable place for the 18-year-old, especially in view of family visits.
The case has deeply shocked public opinion and the authorities remain very attentive to the episode, which is part of the dramatic phenomenon of gender violence and femicide among adolescents.
