A dramatic discovery has brought an already dark and disturbing story back into the spotlight. The lifeless body of Chamila Wijesuriya, 50, was discovered in the early hours of today inside the Parco Nord in Milan, about a kilometer from where she was last seen. The woman, originally from Sri Lanka, had been missing since Friday, the same day that Emanuele De Maria, 35, escaped from Bollate prison. The two were work colleagues inside the penitentiary.
It was a passerby who noticed the body hidden in the vegetation, immediately raising the alarm. The Carabinieri, local police, firefighters, 118 operators and the public prosecutor on duty rushed to the scene. The authorities are now trying to clarify the causes of death and understand whether there is a direct connection between the prisoner's escape and the woman's death.
The missing person report was filed only yesterday, fueling suspicions and questions that now take on much darker contours. The Carabinieri of the Sesto San Giovanni company are busy with the investigation, while the city is wondering about what happened in the days following the escape, in a story that is increasingly tinged with mystery.
