A tragic episode has shaken Piacenza: Pasquale Andriotta, a 42-year-old courier, died during a delivery on the very day his fixed-term contract with the BRT contractor, managed by Afs Service, was due to expire.

The man fell ill, the cause of which is yet to be determined, while his colleagues were on strike, called by Filt Cgil (Italian General Confederation of Labour) to protest increasingly heavy workloads, shifts, and staff shortages. Filt Cgil Piacenza emphasized that this dramatic coincidence highlights structural problems in the sector: precarious contracts limit the freedom to strike and leave workers vulnerable, especially on days of high work pressure.

Karim Mansar of FILT CGIL emphasized that the fear of job loss, linked to the imminent expiration of contracts, raises broader questions about the protection of workers' rights under fixed-term contracts. The union reiterates the need for urgent responses to improve working conditions and prevent further tragedies in a context already identified as critical.
