Fire at the Airola waste storage site: Municipal Operations Center activated

This afternoon, a fire broke out at the Ecoenergy waste storage facility, located in the Pip area of ​​Via Carracciano in Airola, in the province of Benevento. The flames produced a dense cloud of black smoke visible in the surrounding area, prompting the municipal administration to activate the Civil Protection Operations Center and to advise residents in the affected areas to temporarily evacuate their homes as a precautionary measure.

Firefighters from the Benevento provincial command, along with the Bonea detachment, responded quickly to the scene, supported by law enforcement, local police, and civil protection volunteers. Depending on the northeast wind direction, smoke also affected nearby towns, with the mayors of Arpaia, Montesarchio, and Pannarano urging residents to keep doors and windows closed, avoid staying outdoors in the affected areas, and turn off ventilation systems that draw outside air.

Legambiente has expressed concern about the fire, noting that the site is already under judicial seizure. The environmental association has called for the immediate activation of all necessary procedures to manage the emergency, including environmental monitoring of air quality and soil impact, in order to accurately assess the impact on the environment and the health of the affected communities.
