Antarctic Mission Exhibition Reopens
On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, from 10:00 a.m., the exhibition Missione Antartide, 35 years of Italian mission in the extreme continent, promoted by the PNRA – National Antarctic Research Program, will reopen to the public at Città della Scienza .
Visitors will be welcomed by Neapolitan researchers who have personally experienced the expeditions and who will retrace the fundamental stages of their missions in the extreme continent and the main scientific results obtained; biologists from the Parthenope University will also show a selection of Antarctic samples.
The exhibition itinerary includes a description of the historical, legal and institutional elements within which the Program was born and developed, a general introduction to the geography of Antarctica and a reminder of the events that preceded the birth of the PNRA and Italy's participation in the Antarctic Treaty System. An area is dedicated to illustrating the training in Italy of the personnel participating in the expedition and the setting up of a typical remote polar camp.
For Parthenope University tomorrow there will be: Giorgio Budillon – Full Professor and Vice President of the National Scientific Commission for Antarctica and researchers Yuri Cotroneo, Pasquale Castagno, Luigia Donnarumma. The protagonists of the thirty-sixth mission in Antarctica, which ended in February 2021, were researchers from Parthenope University Yuri Cotroneo, Pasquale Castagno, Giovanni Zambardino, and Prof. Pierpaolo Falco, together with their colleagues from the universities of Genoa and Bologna and the CNR.
