MUSICULTURA 2021: out of over 1000 registered, here are the 63 competing artists including the Neapolitans Brugnano, Calmo, Donix, Epo and Luk

A record number of entries to the competition inaugurated the XXXII edition of Musicultura last November. Over a thousand artists (1063), all authors of the songs they perform, participated in the selections of the Festival della Canzone Popolare e d'Autore, which for over 30 years has been a prestigious point of reference for the evolution of Italian popular and author music.
After the first listening of the over two thousand songs in the competition, each artist participates with two proposals, the Musicultura jury announces the names of the 63 competitors who pass the first phase of the competition. A further selection process awaits them in the coming months, which will lead to the list of sixteen finalists, then to that of the eight winners and finally to the name of the overall winner of the XXXII edition.
The 63 selected artists are now preparing to take part in an audition in March, strictly live, at the Teatro Lauro Rossi in Macerata, where they will perform in front of the jury and live streaming on the Festival's social channels.
“We spent three months in the company of this beautiful wave of songs. Styles, sounds, vocabulary are transforming ever more rapidly, the variety of approaches is surprising, the peaks of originality are truly remarkable” – comments Artistic Director Ezio Nannipieri – “being able to listen to the breath of this wonderful organism that is the popular art of song is a privilege. Our aim is to place the work and the artist at the centre, to protect the viability of a space for proposal, maturation, selection in which the songs and those who write them have a value in themselves, before any possible, and in that case understandable and desirable, commercial marketing strategy. Perhaps never before have we felt the relevance of such an objective as in this tormented year. I invite those who are curious about everything and convinced of nothing to follow the live auditions in live streaming, I don't think they will be disappointed.”
There are 12 bands competing, 51 soloists, of which 23 are women and 28 are men; the most represented region is Lombardy, followed by Lazio, Tuscany, Puglia, Campania, Emilia Romagna and Piedmont.
Keeping the songwriting tradition of Campania alive are 5 artists from Naples: the Brugnano duo composed of the brothers Antonio and Gianluca, Calmo, Donix, Epo and Luk.
At the end of the auditions, the 16 finalists of the Festival will be announced. Two of the eight winners will be elected by the public on social media, while the remaining six will be chosen by the prestigious Musicultura Guarantee Committee composed of:

The long journey of Musicultura 2021 will end in June, when the eight winners will take to the stage of the Arena Sferisterio in Macerata and the overall winner, chosen by the public, will receive the prize of 20.000 euros.
