After the tragic helicopter crash on Saturday afternoon that killed 50-year-old Rosa Sapio, the news in Sparanise spread from house to house in just a few hours.
In the city, many, many people are worried about the conditions of Elio Sorvillo, the construction entrepreneur who was driving the vehicle and who attempted a desperate emergency landing after some technical problems. The 68-year-old is still hospitalized in the emergency medicine department at Sant'Anna e San Sebastiano in Caserta, but has multiple injuries to his legs and chest: his conditions remain very serious. Well known in the town, where he has always worked in the construction company Mirage Immobiliare, Sorvillo is an expert pilot with thousands of flight hours behind him. On Saturday afternoon, he was the one piloting the Robinson R22 for a tourist tour along the valley surrounding the Volturno River.
The businessman and the 50-year-old from Marigliano take off from the Piana di Monteverna airfield, in the direction of Agro Caleno. Shortly before 19:XNUMX p.m., just as he was flying over Mount Salemme, Sorvillo's SOS arrives – he radios a technical problem with the engine and announces that he would attempt an emergency landing. A maneuver that evidently fails. The helicopter quickly loses altitude and crashes into the rocky relief of Mount Salemme
When the rescue operations began, it was already dark: the Carabinieri, paramedics and the Speleo Alpino Fluviale team of firefighters had a hard time locating the helicopter wreckage in a particularly inaccessible area. The scene was shocking: in the chaos of wreckage, the man and woman were already out of the cockpit, thrown out by the impact. According to initial reconstructions, when the rescuers arrived on the scene, the woman – although in very serious conditions – was still alive and was talking on the phone to her husband.
Rescue was immediate, but the injuries were too deep and Rosa Sapio died shortly after. Sorvillo also appeared to be in desperate conditions, but was rushed to the hospital in Caserta, where he still is. But for a detailed reconstruction of the type of complications recorded, we will have to wait for the analysis of the black box and information on the route taken, in addition to the results of the autopsy on the body of the 50-year-old. The investigation will be coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, with the collaboration of experts from the Air Force.
