'The latest voices', of the writer Gerland Fabio Sorrentinor, it has a clear historical inspiration. It is 390 AD and the decline of the Western Roman Empire can already be seen.
Emperor Theodosius was forced to humiliate himself before the powerful bishop Ambrose, following the massacre of Thessalonica: by now the temporal power of the Church was increasingly interfering, despite the fact that there was much reluctance, even on the part of aristocrats, to abandon the ancient pagan cults.
Even on the political front, the Empire appears to be at the end of the line. Eugene, the usurper, has already gathered an army: the clash with Theodosius will take place on the Frigidus River. History is then intertwined with the events of a mysterious community, Eurotheis, which on the margins of the empire fights to save the knowledge of an entire civilization from oblivion.
'The Last Voices' is the story of the irreversible crisis of a political and ideological system: the end of a world.
Gerlando Fabio Sorrentino was born in Agrigento in 1968 and currently lives in Pescara. He has already published a novel, Luna Fritta (2009, Fermento) and a collection of poems, I sogni dei ciechi (2012, Rupe Mutevole).
