“We need a political choice right away to save a building that could be used for children in an area where there is a shortage of schools. An effort that the City Council will have to make, and that we strongly urge”.
Catello Maresca, leader of the center-right opposition in the City Council, intervenes on the issue of the school on Via Rotondella ai Camaldoli built by the Municipality, almost complete and already subjected to a request for demolition because it is illegal. A new school, which was supposed to accommodate 400 students, but which has never been used because in addition to missing doors and windows, it is illegal given that it is located in the Chiaiano forest, an area subject to landscape restrictions in which it is forbidden to build: in fact, the Municipality, which had built it in 2010, will now have to demolish it after the request of the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape. "It is a question of respecting the rules - continues Maresca - often, as in this case, competing and establishing which prevail.
The lack of landscape authorization for a school already built with public funds, except for the investigation of criminal and/or accounting responsibilities, requires us to seek a procedure that, while confirming that the primary objective in the face of any type of building abuse is the demolition of the property, also requires, in compliance with the law, to attempt, in the public interest, to avoid demolition and acquire the property for municipal heritage”.
This solution, according to the opposition councilor, is “essential to avoid further waste of public money, in this case over 2 million euros (in compliance with Ministerial Decree 1444/1968, which provides in particular in article 3 in relation to school buildings a quota of areas reserved for education, i.e. nursery schools, kindergartens and compulsory schools)”. “We have requested a technical discussion today in the urban planning commission and therefore hope that the city council – concludes Maresca – will evaluate through procedures provided by law whether it is possible to avoid the demolition of the school with an ad hoc resolution, given the urgency of the case”.
