Pizza boxes, newspaper sheets and Vinavil can work miracles, or rather mosaics: this is what artist Caroline Peyron teaches us, who, next weekend, presents the installation 'Paper Mosaics' at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
After its debut in April in the presence of the Tyrannicides, Peyron's work moves, on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May, to the Ercole Farnese hall: here Peyron presents the one hundred and twenty cartoons on which, with the painstaking patience necessary during the lockdown, the artist has cut out and then glued tiny pieces of newspapers and magazines, to create very colorful images, ancient and modern at the same time.
More than 50 hours to transform a single pizza container, a food that is an identity of Naples, into a colorful paper mosaic: the French artist was inspired by the finds from the Vesuvian cities and the artifacts that embellish other Mediterranean centers to create a composite installation, which measures 9 meters by 3 and 'assembles' representations of nature and abstract images.
Next Sunday (11am-13pm), adults and children will be able to meet in the Ercole Farnese room to learn about the collage technique with a special workshop led by Peyron himself; the journey will not end here, because the artist will return to the Mann on June 8th and 9th, always with the consolidated formula of installation and educational moment, to color the floors of the museum rooms with his mosaics.
On the subject of education and dissemination, the Braccio Nuovo of the MANN is also hosting an exhibition that includes the works selected in the national competition aimed at 6 Italian students as part of the 'Art&Science across Italy' project: from 13 to 30 May, the exhibition 'Colors and images of science', promoted by the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, intends to narrate knowledge with the languages of art and the eyes of the youngest.
Both events, promoted by the MANN Educational Services, will also be available on the occasion of the European Night of Museums: like all national cultural institutes, the Museum will be open from 20pm to 23pm with a special ticket costing 1 euro.
