The ceramics district was born in Campania among the seven cities of ancient tradition.
Signed on Tuesday 26 July, the first act, but very concrete, for the constitution of the Ceramics District between the seven cities of ancient ceramic tradition of Campania: Ariano Irpino, Calitri, Cava de' Tirreni, Cerreto Sannita, Naples-Capodimonte, San Lorenzello and Vietri sul Mare.
The meeting for the establishment of the promotional committee was hosted by the Municipality of Cerreto Sannita, in the presence of representatives of the Campania Ceramic Cities: the Project Coordinator, the vice president of the Aicc (Italian Association of Ceramic Cities) Lucio Rubano, the Councilor for Productive Activities of the Municipality of Cava de' Tirreni, Giovanni Del Vecchio, the President of the Municipal Council of Vietri sul Mare, Daniele Benincasa, the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Ariano Irpino, Lucia Monaco, the Deputy Mayor of Cerreto Sannita, Mario Carangelo and the Deputy Mayor of San Lorenzello, Elvio Sagnella, in addition to the administrator of the Gal Titerno, Elio Mendillo who carried out the technical-organizational support activity.
In the next few days the document will be submitted for signature to the representatives of the Municipalities of Calitri and Naples who are absent due to unforeseen commitments.
“This is a very important step. – explained the coordinator Lucio Rubano – because finally concrete foundations are being laid for the realization of a project that sees all seven Campania cities together for a common goal that will activate funding and a virtuous circuit in the entire ceramic production chain, which will involve and promote our territories and the entire region, with undoubted important economic and employment repercussions especially for the most internal areas. For the first time we are overcoming parochialism and creating a system. After Sicily and Liguria, Campania is also preparing to create a network with a programmatic path of concerted and shared development and with the widest partnership representing the socio-economic and productive fabric of ceramics. The final objective of the memorandum of understanding is the establishment of a public-private partnership for the enhancement of artistic and traditional ceramics in Campania, which must be recognized by the Campania Region, with which to create a Program Agreement aimed at implementing a common strategy aimed at the development and promotion of ceramic production, tourism and culture of the territories”.
“The emerging Campania Ceramics District – declared the mayor of Cerreto Giovanni Parente – in addition to the institutionally competent bodies, it will bring together the stakeholders of the sector: manufacturing companies, ceramic operators, artists, artisan workshops, representative associations, and also artisan schools, museums, collection and documentation centres.
For the first time, thanks to this important act, the traditional artistic ceramics of Campania are united and present themselves as a single entity to concert and prepare strategies for the promotion of what is not only an important part of the artistic and cultural heritage of our region, but also a precious and valuable productive sector capable of contributing to the socio-economic rebirth of our territories.
Not having been able to do so personally due to a meeting for the ATO Rifiuti in Benevento, I have in fact been worthily replaced by Deputy Mayor Mario Carangelo, I take this opportunity to greet and thank the Delegates of the Cities of Ceramics of Campania for having done us the honor of having come to Cerreto Sannita to sign the Memorandum of Understanding of the newly established District of Ceramics of Campania. I would like to thank Dr. Elio Mendillo, Administrator of the GAL Titerno, for the valuable and qualified advice he is offering us. Finally, I would like to thank my friend Lucio Rubano who, with foresight, tenacity, obstinacy and above all with great passion, is working to realize this new project so that this artistic and cultural treasure of ours can be given the right and due importance”.
