The cultural event 'The voices of the stones' starts in Anterrana on Saturday 3 September.

On Saturday 3 September, in Aterrana di Montoro (Avellino), starting at 18.30:XNUMX, the event entitled “The voices of the stones” will be held, promoted by the association Aterrana Ater Iuanua.

The evening will be hosted by the poet Antonietta Gnerre.

It starts at 18.30:XNUMX pm with a series of itinerant monologues in the courtyards, followed by a visit to the village and the final monologue in the Montevergine square. The entire town will be animated by actors and actresses who, through the seduction of the word, will help visitors rediscover the hidden corners of a magical place. A group of local children will gather in the Amphitheater to give voice to the verses of the main Italian poets taken from the anthology “Aterrana”. In the Terlizzi courtyard, the actor Carmine Iannone will recite passages from “The man who did not want to die” by the writer Licia Giaquinto. In the Rocco courtyard, instead, Margherita Rago will be the protagonist of “La Pazza”, or “The woman who spoke to the dead”, also by Licia Giaquinto, while in the Pozzo courtyard there will be Angelo Sateriale with “In Turnate”. In Piazzetta Montevergine, Elisabetta Aloia will recite “La Ianara”, freely adapted from the homonymous volume by Licia Giacquinto published by Adelphi. All events will be accompanied by the notes of violinist Maria Pia De Stefano. The evening will then conclude with a buffet offered by the association.

The soul of the initiative, which aims to save from abandonment a historic village in which the various eras still overlap, one on top of the other, on the facades of its buildings, is the writer Licia Giaquinto, who was born among alleys, stone houses with external steps, Baroque-style balconies, courtyards with ancient wells, windows squared by stone frames, simple little churches capable of characterizing a scenario that seems to have transcended the centuries and modernity.

"The target - he tells - is to make this beautiful village known where I spent my free childhood and to push local administrations to recover it because, properly restored, it could become a great tourist attraction, thanks to the woods that surround it, the paths for trekking lovers, its ancient courtyards that lend themselves to hosting cultural and food and wine events. It is an enchanted place that must be saved at all costs”.

And it is also the place that inspired many of the works of the writer who now lives between Bologna and Amalfi: Fa così anche il lupo for Feltrinelli; La Ianara for Adelphi and La Briganta e lo sparrowhawk for Marsilio. She recently received the Phenomena award for her constant commitment to saving her archaic culture from oblivion and abandonment.

“The agony of this town began even before the earthquake of 1980 which fortunately did not destroy almost anything, it only grazed the houses. But there were various speculations and there was a lack of a long-term vision on the part of the administrations that followed one another. So instead of recovering the village, they preferred to build new buildings. And the rest began to fall apart. The roofs to fall, the ceilings to collapse and so little by little the people preferred to move and move into new buildings that I call buboes on the earth's crust – continues Giaquinto – This beautiful village surrounded by woods needs to be given back its dignity and beauty. But today no one is taking care of it. Soon it will become a ruin and it is deeply unfair. This is why I wanted to form an association to try to save my origins. We are 15 kilometers from Salerno, less than half an hour from Paestum and the Amalfi coast. Aterrana is in a strategic position to also visit Cilento and Alta Iripinia, in the middle of lush nature. I invite all lovers of villages to participate in this cultural event dedicated to the stones that have assimilated within them the voices of the inhabitants who lived here. Voices dating back to the Mesolithic, with an ancient story to tell”.
