A reflection on the theme of confiscated assets to organized crime, also involving students. It is the one organized this morning by the Provincial Coordination of the Youth Forums of Salerno at Palazzo Sant'Agostino to study in depth the methods of seizure of those goods and their subsequent reuse for the benefit of the community.
The vice president of the Province of Salerno, Giovanni Guzzo, and the coordinator of the Forum, Rosario Madaio, introduced the proceedings. “In Campania – recalls the PD deputy, Piero De Luca – there are over 7 thousand confiscated assets on which economic and social valorization procedures are underway. There are 50 million euros of funds financed with European, regional and national resources for over 100 projects for the recovery of these assets”.
The Democratic Party representative, however, raises an alarm: “In the PNRR there were over 300 million euros planned in a specific line of intervention for the valorization of assets confiscated from the mafia; 250 million euros were to be managed by the Cohesion Agency. There is a call for tenders and a public notice, still open today. With the measure approved by the Government, which abolishes the Cohesion Agency, this type of intervention risks being skipped”. De Luca hopes that “the Government will stop”, and assures that “we will make a strong opposition. Abolishing the Cohesion Agency means severely penalizing the South. The Government is doing everything it can to work against the South”.
The Campania Region Councilor for Security, Legality and Immigration, Mario Morcone, emphasizes that, "as Campania, we are certainly ahead of many other regions". And he announces: "There is an opportunity that we are building, like last year but even more important, which is the second forum of seized and confiscated assets that we will hold at the maritime station of Naples. This time all the Italian Regions will be there because we have also obtained the patronage of the State-Regions because we want to push with passion on this theme, which is strategic for our country".
Morcone then notes that there is “a narrative that goes against the grain,” arguing that “we must counteract this ugly trend that is emerging in an attempt to stop and slow down the issue of prevention measures.” Claudio Molinari, the commander of the economic-financial police unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Salerno, explains that “attacking a criminal organization, taking away the assets it has illegally acquired, means depriving that organization of the possibility of regenerating itself.”
“There are many regulatory tools at our disposal, there is a lot of information that we process to achieve this goal, but the results we obtain give concrete evidence of our commitment,” he concludes.
