The National Committee is established by decree of the MiC with the task of planning, promoting and managing the events for the celebrations of the two thousandth anniversary of the birth of Pliny the Elder, for which a contribution of 60 thousand euros has been foreseen.
The National Committee is composed of: Matteo Accardi, director of the Province of Como; Gianfranco Adornato, associate professor of Archaeology and History of Greek and Roman Art at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa; Paolo Luca Bernardini, full professor of Modern History at the Department of Human Sciences and Innovation for the Territory of the University of Insubria; Ciro Cacciola, General Director of the CIVES Foundation and Director of the Virtual Archaeological Museum (MAV) of Ercolano; Piergiulio Cappelletti, full professor of Mineral georesources and mineralogical-petrographic applications for the environment and cultural heritage at the Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences and Director of the Museum Center of Natural and Physical Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II.
Elisabetta Cattanei, full professor of History of Ancient Philosophy at the School of Humanities of the University of Genoa; Livia Cioffi, Mayor of the Municipality of Veleso; Gian Biagio Conte, professor emeritus of Latin Literature at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa; Thibault Marie Alban Guillaume Damour, full professor at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques of Bures-sur-Yvette; Giancarlo Frigerio, President of the Società Archeologica Comense; Stefano Bruno Galli, associate professor of History of Doctrines and Political Institutions at the University of Milan and Councilor for Autonomy and Culture of the Lombardy Region; Maurizio Harari, full professor of Etruscology and Italic Antiquities at the University of Pavia; Olga Introzzi, project manager and fundraiser of the Alessandro Volta Foundation of Como and of the “La Società dei Concerti” Foundation of Milan; Luca Levrini, President of the Alessandro Volta Foundation; Alessandro Luciano, contract professor of Archaeology and Media at the University of Naples Suor Orsola Benincasa and scientific director for the research agreement between the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa.

The members of the National Committee are not entitled to compensation, attendance fees, allowances or emoluments of any kind.
The Ministry of Culture shall designate, with a subsequent provision, an auditor. The National Committee shall submit to the Directorate-General for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes of the Ministry the annual final budget of expenditure and, within three months of the conclusion of the work, the final final budget accompanied by a report on the activity carried out.
