The municipality of Pozzuoli has entrusted the Archaeological Park of the Phlegraean Fields with the church of San Liborio and the adjacent premises, in the Terra district. This agreement represents the first seed to create an exhibition hall that will be used for exhibitions and cultural activities. In fact, it is the first exhibition center for the Terra district, with the aim of enhancing the fortress and "at the same time consolidating the relationships between a highly symbolic place and its reference communities".
The resolution, approved by the council and proposed by the deputy mayor Filippo Monaco, was voted in favor by the entire city council. The exhibition center next to the archaeological route (which conceals the city of the 2nd century BC) and the diocesan museum will offer those who visit the ancient fortress a varied and increasingly rich cultural route.
“For us it is a clear signal of what we want the ancient fortress to become,” said Mayor Gigi Manzoni. “In addition to the hospitality activities, the cultural offering must be increased. And on this point, as we have also demonstrated in recent months, our ideas are very clear,” he added. The Archaeological Park will be given the task of carrying out all the administrative activities and ensuring compliance with the law for the Exhibition Center, thus guaranteeing its collective usability.
"Taking care of the historical memory of the city, but at the same time opening ourselves to art exhibitions (even contemporary ones) is the evident and clear signal that the Rione Terra lives. And we firmly believe that the pact between entities is fundamental to relaunching our city, which can make cultural tourism the true economic engine", concluded the deputy mayor and councilor for Tourism, Filippo Monaco.
