On Monday afternoon, the officers of the Railway Police Department for Campania, following targeted checks in ferrous material depots aimed at curbing the phenomenon of copper cable thefts in the railway sector, proceeded to check a depot in the peripheral area of Saviano, a finding which led to the owner being reported at liberty.
In particular, in the company's warehouse, authorized for the storage of ferrous and non-ferrous metal waste, the police found approximately 190 tons of sheathed copper cables for which the administrator was unable to provide documentation certifying their lawful origin.
Following the investigation, the copper found was seized together with the trailer in which it was contained.
The owner, a 69-year-old Neapolitan, was reported for illegal waste management.
With yesterday's episode, the number of people reported since the beginning of the year by the judicial police team of the Railway Police Department for receiving stolen goods and illegal management of waste has risen to 9, while approximately 180 depots have been checked, 8 storage sites have been seized and 290 tons of copper have been seized.
