“The Ukrainian footballer Mykola Zhydkov he died defending his homeland." The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense wrote this on Twitter, recalling that “Mykola played for the team of football Polish Wegrzcanka. Returned to Ukraine in the fall of 2022 he joined the ranks of the defense forces. May the memory of this Hero be eternal. Glory to the Heroes!”.
The story of Zhydkov was already known on social media: in November 2022, in fact, the Polish club Wegrzcanka (and the whole city) had dedicated a pasillo de honor and a greeting after the footballer had communicated his decision to enlist in the army and go to fight in the war.
“'Miki' was a very kind, polite and helpful boy, there was no person who knew him and did not feel compassion for him. When he went on the field, he fought until his last breath to give victory to his team and when it came to fighting for the freedom of his country, he sacrificed what a person could have at such a young age. He sacrificed his life”, the message from the Polish club.
