Share

A newborn baby was found alive in the rubbish near a dumpster in the centre of Taranto.

Around 7am, it was a passerby who was walking her dogs who made the discovery, attracted by the cries of the little one left in a envelope and wrapped in a blanket.

There was also a stuffed toy next to it. The woman immediately raised the alarm and the 118 paramedics intervened on the spot, who took care of the newborn, transporting him to theSantissima Annunziata hospital. The little boy, according to what was reported by the ASL, is “in excellent condition”.

The part of the umbilical cord attached to the newborn, the local health authority explained, was still fresh. This means that the birth could have occurred one to two hours before the discovery.

The other part of the cord would have remained attached to the mother who, if not properly assisted, would risk hemorrhaging. Professor Federico Schettini of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Utin) is personally following the baby, "cuddled by all the staff".

“We hope – they add from the local health authority – that the mother will get in touch soon”. The State Police officers intervened on site and started the investigations also acquiring the images from the video surveillance cameras in the area. The child was found in via Pisanelli at the corner with via Principe Amedeo.
