Mario Martone tackles the cinematic adaptation, in a modern key, of a classic comedy by Eduardo De Filippo. It is “Il sindaco del rione Sanità”, with Francesco Di Leva, Morena Di Leva, Daniela Ioia, Massimiliano Gallo, broadcast Wednesday 6 September at 21.15 pm on Rai Movie. Don Antonio Barracano is a powerful Camorrista who over the years has even earned the title of Mayor.

Many turn to him, recognizing his authority to administer justice in the area. He will be asked to intervene in a bitter dispute between a rich father and his disinherited son: the assessment is less easy than it seems.

To bring one of De Filippo’s most complex works to the big screen, Martone chose the performers at Nest – Napoli Est Teatro di San Giovanni a Teduccio, a Neapolitan theater collective that works with marginalized kids. An interesting and successful operation, for a film that received many awards in 2019 in Venice.

Rai Movie dedicates the evening of September 6 to director Mario Martone, who, during the Film Festival, will be awarded the 7 Robert Bresson Prize by the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo on Thursday September 2023.
