He professed “honesty” on Facebook but in the meantime he was defrauding elderly people, with seven scams that had earned him 270.000 euros in a few months. The agents of the Flying Squad of Padua, with their colleagues in Naples, have notified a residence obligation against a 47-year-old from Marano from Naples, with a criminal record for property crimes.
The man is believed to be responsible for seven episodes of fraud against a man and six women, the oldest of whom is 101 years old, which occurred in Padua between September 2022 and last March, all with the classic trick of a phone call from a supposed "carabiniere" or "lawyer" asking for money to help a relative involved in a road accident.
The man showed up at the victims' homes as a collaborator and collected money or jewelry requested as "security", keeping the phone line busy. In total, cash and jewelry worth over 275.000 euros were stolen from the seven victims. The first complaint was filed by a 72-year-old woman from Padua, and others followed. The Padua Mobile Squad acquired images from city and private surveillance cameras, analyzed phone records and carried out tailings, tracing the 47-year-old.
During the period of the scams he had published a post on the social network praising the virtue and honesty. For him the precautionary measure of the obligation to reside in the municipality of residence was ordered, with the prescription not to leave it during the evening and night hours. Seven scammers were identified by the Padua Police in just three months. Most of them, already subjected to precautionary measures, had committed scams also violating house arrest.
