The project is the protagonist of a fundraiser on the online platform Produzioni dal Basso.
The film “Il Laboratorio” – written by Pasquale Napolitano and Daniela Allocca, directed by Pasquale Napolitano and produced by Lapej Communication – tells an extraordinary artistic story, which no one has ever told, that of the master of the art of engraving Vittorio Avella.
After spending several years in Paris, Vittorio Avella returns to Nola, his hometown, and together with his lifelong friend, Antonio Sgambati, he embarks on a path that is totally outside the box, that is, he decides to put his talent and knowledge of the art of engraving at the service of the creation of other people's works. Thus in 1978 Avella and Sgambati found the art printing house "Il Laboratorio di Nola", which is still today among the most important realities in the applied arts sector worldwide, with highly valuable editions under its belt that make it one of the best producers of art and artist books in the world, with a catalog that includes the most important names in poetry and the visual arts.
The exhibitions of the Laboratory are real events, like the Festa del Merlo, an event that every year brings artists and poets from all over the world to a courtyard in the province of Naples, with the idea of putting the conviviality of art at the center as a tool for sharing and citizenship.
The idea of launching a fundraising campaign on Produzioni dal Basso – the first Italian crowdfunding and social innovation platform – comes from the director, linked by an autobiographical matrix to Antonio Sgambati (his middle school teacher), to make more people aware of the Laboratory, which in 45 years of activity has given life to an artistic community whose main merit is certainly that of having brought art where it does not exist.
