An illicit business of over 100 thousand euros in just three months. This is what was discovered by the Flying Squad of the Asti Police Headquarters, which coordinated an operation with the help of the police of Napoli, Agrigento and Viterbo.

Four people have been arrested on charges of participating in a criminal association aimed at delivering cell phones to prisons in Asti, Saluzzo, Agrigento, Catania, Ascoli Piceno, Benevento, Teramo and Ariano Irpino.
It is Simone Iacomino (already incarcerated in the Agrigento prison), Veronica Virgilio, Salvatore Sbrescia and Vasil Dziatko.
The cell phones were delivered by drones piloted by the inmates themselves inside the prisons. The devices were then resold to the inmates at exorbitant prices: 1.000 euros for smartphones and 300 euros for handsets.
The investigation lasted three months and led to the interception of 21 telephone usersand listening to more 10.000 phone calls. Two drones were seized, more than 60 SIM cards, phones, handsets and other devices.
During the operation, two couriers were arrested red-handed while attempting to deliver cell phones to the Asti prison. 488,1 grams of hashish, 7,8 grams of cocaine, 1,9 grams of heroin and 8 grams of marijuana were also seized.
The operation is a serious blow to cell phone trafficking in prison. Investigations are still ongoing to identify any other members of the organization.
