Ship hits dock at Molo Beverello: 44 injured

There are 44 injured in this morning's accident in the port of Naples, where a fast ship hit a dock at Molo Beverello. This was announced by the ASL Napoli 1 Centro, specifying that the toll is final.

All the injured are in green or yellow code. One injured initially in red code at the Ospedale del Mare then went to yellow code.

The injured were transported to various hospitals in the city: 6 to Cardarelli; 2 to San Paolo;
13 at the Ospedale del Mare; 5 at the Cto; 3 at the Fatebenefratelli; 3 at Villa Betania and 12 at the Pellegrini.

Ciro Verdoliva, general director of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro, praised the health personnel for their promptness and professionalism in assisting the injured. “Today's accident has demonstrated, once again, how healthcare personnel are ready to respond to any emergency with professionalism and effectiveness – said the director of the ASL Napoli 1 Centro, Ciro Verdoliva –.

My personal thanks and those of the entire health management of the ASL that I manage go to the women and men who worked hard to rescue the passengers involved and to ensure that they could receive the necessary care as quickly as possible. Thanks also to the staff of the 118 Service and the emergency area. We will continue to monitor the condition of all the injured, but we know that they are entrusted to the best care in the city facilities”, concluded Verdoliva.

The request for security in ports:

The general secretaries of Cgil and Filt Napoli e Campania, Nicola Ricci and Angelo Lustro, have asked to strengthen safety in port workplaces. “This morning's incident highlights how safety in the workplace in the port area must be a priority”

, Ricci and Lustro said. “It is necessary to strengthen both technological resources and training to avoid accidents like the one that occurred this morning.”
