The Salerno Public Prosecutor's Office, headed by Chief Prosecutor Giuseppe Borrelli, has released the two pitbulls that attacked a Eboli, killing him, little Francesco Pio, only 13 months old.
The International Organization for Animal Protection (OIPA) congratulates the magistrates who have taken this decision that respects the life of the two animals and gives them a chance of recovery.
The dogs are currently in a shelter in Caserta and, as far as we know, will have to undergo a re-education program in Naples at the expense of the owners, now under investigation along with the mother and the two uncles of the child. If the owners decide not to financially support this program, the animals will be given into foster care after being recovered.
OIPA hopes that this address by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office will set a precedent and be a model to follow in similar cases where "challenging" dogs are the protagonists of more or less serious episodes of aggression.
That said, the association once again asks the legislator to regulate the possession of certain types of dogs that are too often chosen by people who are not able to manage them correctly. At a local level, some municipalities, such as Milan, have regulated the matter by providing for the granting of licenses for the possession of certain breeds or similar breeds.
