Naples. The theater hall of the "Asterix" Center in San Giovanni a Teduccio is now named after Giovanbattista Cutolo, the young musician killed last August 31st during an argument he was not involved in.
The plaque bearing the name of Giogio', as Giovanbattista was known, was unveiled this morning by the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, together with the boy's parents, in the presence of the councilor for Youth Policies and Labor, Chiara Marciani, the president of the city council, Enza Amato, and other city councilors.
A moment of remembrance and commitment
The naming ceremony was a moment of great emotion and reflection. A group of children from the“Rodino'” Comprehensive Institute di Barra sang a song dedicated to George' and Francesco Pio Maimone, another young victim of youth violence.
A commitment to legality and redemption
Mayor Manfredi he stressed the importance of remembering young people like Giogio', who represent a positive example for the new generations. "We must ensure that every year there is a review or an initiative to always remember the sacrifice of Giogio' and reaffirm our commitment to legality, supporting young people who want to follow a positive path", said the mayor.
Councilor Marciani he highlighted the connection between Giogio's memory and music, his great passion. “We wanted to symbolically choose a room where music is also played to remember what Giovanbattista's passion was and to demonstrate the importance of creating opportunities to enhance the talent of young people,” he said.
The president of the city council Amato recalled that naming the hall after Giogio' was approved unanimously by the city council. "This idea means not only remembering, but also creating opportunities for redemption thanks to places where socialization, integration and culture reign in response to situations of degradation and deprivation where criminal phenomena most often arise", she explained.
A message of hope
Daniela Di Maggio, mother of Giogio', expressed her deep gratitude to the mayor, the city councilors and all those who wanted to remember her son. “Names have an energy and having a hall that bears the name of Giovanbattista Cutolo here in San Giovanni a Teduccio, which is a border area, it means having a place that emanates the energy of legality. And this is very important for the whole city,” he concluded.
A place of memory and growth
The theater hall named after Giovanbattista Cutolo will become a place of memory and commitment to legality and redemption. A place where young people can find inspiration and nourish their passion for music and culture, far from violence and crime.
