Naples – A bougainvillea and a commemorative plaque at Viviani Park will remember Chiara Jaconis, the 30-year-old from Padua who tragically died six months ago in Naples. On September 15, 2024, the young tourist was hit by a statue that fell from a balcony in the Spanish Quarter and died at the Ospedale del Mare.
This morning, on the occasion of the sad anniversary, a ceremony promoted by the municipal administration was held, in the presence of the councilors Teresa Armato (Tourism) and Emanuela Ferrante (Equal Opportunities), the councilors Salvatore Iodice (Green) and Lorenzo Iorio (Tourism) of Municipality 2, as well as the president of the same Municipality, Roberto Marino.
Chiara's mother Cristina, her sister Roberta and her aunt Paola came from her hometown, Padua. Visibly moved, the mother thanked for the initiative: "It's beautiful when we remember Chiara, who gave her life for Naples. I want the truth to emerge and I will fight until it comes out. It's a promise I made to my daughter. The Neapolitans have been close to us and have given us comfort."
Councilor Armato emphasized the bond between the city and the young woman's family: "Naples has rallied around Chiara and her loved ones since the day of the tragedy. Today, by planting this climbing plant and unveiling the commemorative plaque, we renew our commitment to keeping her memory alive."
Councilor Ferrante also reiterated the importance of the gesture: "Chiara had come to Naples to experience moments of joy, like many tourists. Dedicating a corner of the city to her means not forgetting and hoping that similar tragedies never happen again."
The ceremony was accompanied by music performed by the students of the Baroque Ensemble of the Margherita di Savoia High School, directed by Vincenzo Varriale. In addition, in the orchard of Viviani Park, cared for by the N'Sea Yet association, a jasmine was also planted in her honor.

I agree with you, it is important not to forget and honor Chiara's memory. The ceremony showed how Naples can be a community united in grief and in commemoration of those who lost their lives in such tragic circumstances.
