Autumn seems to have taken a step back. Weather forecasts for Naples and Campania show that the heat wave that is enveloping the region has transformed the end of October into a sort of beginning of September, with temperatures well above average.
In the next few days, the maximum temperatures will reach values typical of late August, with peaks of 28 degrees in Sicily and 24 degrees in Naples. A climate anomaly confirmed by data from recent years: in 2023, for example, 32 degrees were recorded in Palermo on October 30.
A persistent anticyclone
The cause of this anomalous heat is a subtropical anticyclone that has stabilized over Italy, ensuring clear skies and mild temperatures. This situation should last at least for a week, also bringing with it an increase in pollution in the flat areas due to fog and thermal inversions.
An autumn without stopping
Forecasts indicate that the heat could continue into November, putting a strain on the environment and forcing us to postpone turning on the heating.
