On Monday 11th November the workers of Leonardo Aerostructures will go on strike for two hours at all Italian sites, following the recent statements of Leonardo's CEO. The unions Fim, Fiom and Uilm have proclaimed it, expressing strong concern for the future of the aerostructures sector and the fate of over 4.000 employees.
The reason for the protest is the company's announcement of a possible spin-off of the aerostructures sector, which according to the unions risks "splitting the country" and leaving thousands of workers without prospects, particularly in Southern Italy, already marked by production difficulties at the Grottaglie site. “We are shocked by the words of the CEO,” the union representatives affirm. “Leonardo is growing in orders and results, but now there is a risk of marginalizing a fundamental part of the company, hit by Boeing's difficulties.”
The unions also denounce the lack of clarity on the part of the company, accused of not providing concrete indications on the real intentions regarding the fate of the aerostructures division, contradicting the promises of dialogue made during recent meetings with workers' representatives.
“We will not agree to sit down and discuss without a clear plan,” declare Fim, Fiom and Uilm, underlining how the recent declarations not only call into question the future of the aerospace sector in Southern Italy, but also violate the good practices of industrial relations established only a few months ago.
For these reasons, the national secretariats invite all the RSU of the Aerostructures Division to inform the workers of the gravity of the situation and to participate in the strike on Monday, which will follow the assemblies with the employees at all the sites. “Workers deserve respect,” the unions conclude. “They are not a waste of time, and we will strongly defend their future and the value of industrial work in Italy.”
