Mondragone.
He was not only a lover of Christmas sweets, but also a presumed boss of the local underworld. Francesco Tiberio Tower, 65 years old, cousin of the well-known boss Augusto La Torre, was arrested by the Carabinieri on charges of being the head of a criminal organization dedicated to extortion. The investigation, coordinated by the DDA of Napoli, has brought to light a long list of alleged victims, including entrepreneurs, shopkeepers and even a cooperative that manages paid parking. The extortion demands, often accompanied by serious death threats, would have earned La Torre tens of thousands of euros.
“But this year a panettone for Uncle Tiberio won't come out?”, this is how the alleged boss introduced himself to his victims, demonstrating a ruthless determination in pursuing his shady business. The investigations, carried out by the Carabinieri, have reconstructed a disturbing picture of a criminal system well-rooted in the territory of Mondragone.
Among the most illustrious victims is also the regional councilor Giovanni Zannini, from whom La Torre allegedly asked for a bribe of 50 thousand euros. A very serious accusation that casts a shadow on local politics.
The investigating judge of Napoli has ordered the precautionary detention in prison for La Torre, considered a danger to the safety of people and to public order. Today's operation represents a hard blow to organized crime in Mondragone and an important signal for all honest citizens.
