The episode, which occurred a few steps away from the famous mural of Maradona, has caused indignation and concern among citizens. Thanks to the clear images from the video surveillance cameras present in the area, the Carabinieri of the Naples Central Operations Unit were able to precisely identify the alleged perpetrator of the crime, a 21-year-old Neapolitan youth.
The footage clearly shows the dynamics of the attack: the robber, with a rapid and violent gesture, grabbed the victim's wrist, snatching his watch. Patek Philippe and disappearing on a scooter.
The investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples, is still ongoing to trace the identity of the accomplice riding the scooter, who allegedly helped the robber escape.
Despite the arrest of the 21-year-old, the Carabinieri are determined to identify and arrest the second perpetrator, in order to bring all the culprits to justice.
The security problem in the Spanish Quarters
This episode raises once again the issue of safety in the Spanish Quarter, an area of the city that, despite being rich in history and culture, has long been plagued by crime.
The attack on the Mexican tourist represents a hard blow to the image of Naples and the Spanish Quarters and above all to that "magical" place like the mural of Maradona visited by millions of people every year, causing concern among residents and sparking a debate on the need to intensify controls and improve video surveillance.
