Asia, the fourteen-year-old from Sala Consilina who in recent months had shared her battle with cancer on social media, has recovered, even attracting criticism from haters.
But she never gave up and today she wrote 'I'm cancer free', also supported by a special message of encouragement, that of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, arrived in recent months.
“Asia, I saw your video and you are very good! Congratulations on your strength and best wishes! Sergio Mattarella”, were the words that the Head of State made sure to send her, last May, from the official account of the Quirinale, commenting on a video in which Asia played the piano in the playroom of the oncology department of the Santobono Pausilipon pediatric hospital in Naples, where she was being treated.
“I am Asia's mother, thank you thank you and thank you again”, was the response from mother Rossana, who hoped that “Asia's attitude in the face of this outrage could be an example to many boys and girls, to give the voice and strength to raise their heads and fight these ugly actions”. It was the mother herself who had decided to make public some of the most wicked insults and comments on Ondanews.
It's a very touching story and I'm glad Asia has overcome cancer. However, I wonder if there has been enough attention for other kids who are facing similar challenges. We shouldn't forget them.
I also think that Asia's story is important, but there are many other young people who fight against serious diseases and often do not have the same visibility. We must give voice to all of them.
