Major operation by the State Police against online paedophilia and child pornography: twelve people were arrested and another fourteen reported in an investigation that led to the seizure of tens of thousands of files containing illicit material.
The operation, called “Viper 2”, was conducted by investigators of the Venice Cyber Security Operations Centerunder the coordination of Public Prosecutor's Office of Venice and National Center for Combating Online Child Pornography of the Postal Police Service. The raids extended to several Italian provinces, including Lecce, Sassari, Syracuse, Massa, Pisa, Bergamo, Milan, Monza Brianza, Isernia, Caserta, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Alessandria, Cuneo, Novara, Venice, Vicenza and Treviso.
The operation arises from the previous investigation “Viper”, conducted by the same Operations Center for Cyber Security in Venice, which last year had already led to the arrest of 28 people and the execution of 60 searches against an international network of paedophiles. The new blitz confirms the existence of a ramified system for the distribution of child pornography, which law enforcement continues to investigate with targeted operations on a national scale.
