New intervention by the Penitentiary Police officers in the prison of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, in the province of Avellino, where two perfectly functioning smartphones were discovered and confiscated.
The devices were found among the waste inside the facility, in an operation that confirms the constant attention of the staff in the fight against the introduction of prohibited objects.
The seizure is part of a broader framework of investigative activities conducted since the beginning of the year: in the first two months of 2025, in fact, a total of 9 cell phones and 6 chargers were seized, while in January alone 120 grams of hashish were intercepted. Numbers that testify to a relentless commitment, despite the operational difficulties.
Commenting on the episode is Leo Beneduci, general secretary of Osapp, who praised the work of the agents: “The staff of the Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi prison deserves the highest recognition for the professionalism demonstrated.
We are faced with a frontier prison, where we operate in conditions of perpetual emergency, aggravated by the chronic lack of staff and the arrival of problematic prisoners, transferred from other institutions for disciplinary reasons".
Beneduci then pointed the finger at a management that, in his opinion, has led to the decline of a structure once considered a national excellence: "Inadequate choices are compromising the glorious past of this institute".
The episode relaunches the debate on security in Italian prisons and the daily challenges faced by prison staff, called upon to ensure order in increasingly complex contexts.
