The Ministry of the Interior has announced the allocation of 1,5 million euros for 2025 in favor of the municipalities that fall within the Land of Fires, in the provinces of Naples and CasertaThe aim is to combat waste abandonment and burning, a problem that has afflicted this area for years.
How the funds will be used
The allocated resources can be used by municipalities for various purposes:
Fixed-term hiring of local police officers: to strengthen territorial control and combat environmental crimes.
Overtime pay: to intensify control and prevention activities, especially during periods of greatest risk.
Purchase of camera traps and video surveillance tools: to monitor the territory and identify those responsible for waste abandonment and fires.
Fund allocation criteria
Interested municipalities may request funding by March 31, by submitting an application to the competent prefecture. The application must be accompanied by a project sheet that illustrates the initiatives that are intended to be implemented in the period between June 15 and October 15, 2025, with the related expenditure items.
The resources will be assigned with priority to the projects submitted by the municipalities that have recorded the highest number of waste fires in the four-year period 2021-2024, as detected by the dashboard of the National Fire Brigade. In the event of a tie, preference will be given to the municipalities with the most inhabitants.
