Naples – Another dramatic accident shook the city during the night. In via Marina, a car overturned due to high speed, according to what was reported by some witnesses present on the scene.
The images of the incident, captured on video, were sent to MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli (Green Alliance – Left), who has long been at the forefront of the fight to improve road safety in the Campania capital. “It’s a miracle that this time there were no victims,” Borrelli said, “but we can’t continue to rely on luck. We all remember the tragedy of March 8, when a 46-year-old cyclist lost his life on Via Marina, run over and died after four days of agony in hospital.” The numbers speak for themselves: since the beginning of 2025, Naples has already recorded hundreds of road accidents. The latest available data, updated to mid-February, report 117 accidents and three deaths, a toll that the MP calls “impressive, unacceptable and constantly growing.”
Borrelli does not mince his words in denouncing the inertia of the institutions: “For some time I have been asking for radical interventions: speed bumps on the busiest arteries such as Via Marina, more controls and the use of electronic devices to monitor compliance with the rules.
But the new highway code, as it stands, ties the hands of local administrations, preventing them from improving safety in urban centers. It is madness that leaves citizens without protection."
The deputy concludes with a heartfelt appeal: "Urgent measures are needed to stop this silent massacre. We can no longer allow ourselves to count the dead on our streets." Meanwhile, the video of the accident on Via Marina becomes yet another testimony to a problem that Naples can no longer ignore.
