Castellammare di Stabia – He disappeared last January, after having obtained permission for a medical visit while under house arrest in Asola, in the province of Mantua.
Since then, there was no news of Maurizio Vitale, 38 years old. Until this morning, when the Carabinieri of the Castellammare di Stabia company tracked him down and arrested him in the heart of the city of Stabia.
Vitale, a convicted drug trafficker and believed to be close to the D'Alessandro clan, was the recipient of a prison order issued by the Court of Appeal of Naples for a cumulative sentence of 17 years in prison.
The man, according to what was reconstructed by investigators, had returned to hide in Castellammare, his hometown, where investigators had already concentrated their searches in recent weeks.
The investigations, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Naples, with the prosecutor Giuseppe Cimmarotta, led to the identification of a house in Strada Seconda Licerta.
At dawn today, the military of the operational and radiomobile section broke into the apartment, surprising the fugitive who had just returned. Vitale did not resist and was transferred to the prison of Naples Secondigliano, where he will remain under high security.
