Nearly a year and a half after the death of Matteo Carfora, 17, from Maddaloni, the Prosecutor's Office is reopening a crucial chapter in the investigation. The body of the boy, who fell from the third floor of his home on Via Gramsci on April 9, 2025, will be exhumed and subjected to a new autopsy.

The decision was made by Angela Mennella, the investigating judge at the Santa Maria Capua Vetere court, who deemed further investigation necessary to establish with greater certainty what happened that morning and, above all, whether the 17-year-old's death could actually be traced back to a deliberate act.

The judge ordered a six-month extension of the investigation, entrusting the Prosecutor's Office and the Judicial Police with a series of investigations deemed necessary to reconstruct the last moments of Matteo's life.

The dynamics of the fall under the lens

One of the key points highlighted by the investigating judge concerns the dynamics of the fall. Investigators will have to reconstruct in detail what happened before the fall and verify all the evidence needed to clarify the boy's position and movements.

The required tests also include toxicology tests, which will determine whether the 17-year-old's body contained substances capable of altering his psychophysical condition.

Particular attention was also paid to the statements collected during the investigation. Some of the people interviewed as having knowledge of the facts provided, according to the judicial authorities, versions that were not entirely consistent. This fact warrants further investigation.

That argument three days before his death

There's also an incident that could play a significant role in reconstructing Matteo's final days. On April 6, 2025, just three days before the tragedy, the 17-year-old was allegedly involved in an argument with another boy outside a bar in Maddaloni.

The investigating judge has asked for further investigation into this episode, verifying its dynamics, its perpetrators, and possible connections with what happened later.

At this stage, this is not a definitive reconstruction of the causes of death, but rather one of the elements that the judicial authorities deem worthy of further investigation as part of the new investigative segment.

Cameras to reconstruct the last movements

Another piece of the investigation concerns video surveillance. Investigators will have to acquire and analyze images recorded by cameras in the area, with the aim of reconstructing Matteo's movements in the hours preceding the fall.

In particular, attention is focused on the movements of the boy riding an electric bicycle and the presence of a Fiat 500, whose license plate and driver must be identified.

These are elements that could help to define the sequence of events more precisely and to verify the various circumstances that emerged during the investigation.

The family demands to know the truth

The family's lawyers are also involved in the proceedings. Matteo's father is assisted by Francesco Liguori, while his brother Domenico is represented by Sergio Pisani.

The exhumation and new investigations now represent an important step in the investigation. The judge's stated goal is to gather new evidence to definitively clarify the circumstances of the 17-year-old's death and to verify, through scientific data, witness statements, and images, the true dynamics of the fall.
