Pozzuoli, the earthquake toll: 4.617 displaced and over a thousand homes uninhabitable.
Naples – The toll remains heavy, but the relief effort continues. An update meeting was held this morning at the Prefecture on the bradyseismic crisis that struck the Phlegraean Fields following the powerful earthquake of July 31st. The meeting was chaired by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, joined by the Deputy Mayor of Pozzuoli, Maria Magliulo, and the provincial heads of the Fire Brigade and Law Enforcement.
On the operational front, the firefighters' deployment remains robust: thirteen teams deployed in the Pozzuoli area with a dual mandate. On the one hand, the rapid static inspections of damaged buildings, now totaling 837, have led to the evacuation of 218 buildings, for a total of 1.108 residential units. On the other, the community is assisting in recovering essential items from homes declared uninhabitable, with 362 household goods recovery operations already completed.
The figures provided by the Municipality of Pozzuoli depict a still complex situation. Currently, 4.617 people (1.982 families) are subject to eviction orders. Of these, the vast majority—3.470—have opted for the Independent Accommodation Grant (CAS), seeking alternative housing on their own. 99 people are staying in affiliated hotels, while 40 are still sheltering at the Palatrincone. A significant portion, 1.008 people, have not applied for assistance.
A positive note comes from the return of residents: 209 people (85 families) have already been able to return to their homes following the eviction orders, a sign that the technical checks are gradually restoring some measure of normalcy to the urban fabric.
The monitoring committee, as confirmed by the Prefecture, remains open and active to monitor the evolution of the phenomenon and coordinate the next phases of the emergency.
