Illegal work and poor safety: three businesses closed over the weekend between Battipaglia and Cava.

Salerno – From the early hours of August 28th until the evening of the 29th, inspectors from the Salerno ITL combed public establishments together with the Labor Inspectorate, the Battipaglia Financial Police, the Battipaglia Carabinieri, and the Immigration Office.

Target: undeclared work and compliance with health and safety regulations. The inspections focused on Battipaglia and Cava de' Tirreni. Three businesses were suspended for employing 22 workers without prior notice of employment. A massive fine was also imposed. In Battipaglia, 13 out of 53 were found to be illegal.

In the first establishment inspected in the municipality of Battipaglia, inspectors found 53 people working. Thirteen were not legally employed. Among them, one employee lacked a residence permit. Due to exceeding the 10 percent threshold of undeclared work, the business was suspended. The employer was also charged with violations of the Consolidated Law on Immigration. Fines for illegal employment amount to approximately €59. It's not over.

The operator was charged with serious health and safety deficiencies: failure to comply with fire prevention regulations, unsanitary changing rooms, bathrooms, and dining halls, inadequate emergency exits, and the absence of first aid kits. The installation of video surveillance cameras without the required authorization was also alleged. The company was fined approximately €35.

A second business closed due to a single undeclared employee

At the second Battipaglia location, only one worker was found working illegally. This worker, too, was suspended from work. Fines for illegal employment range from €6.400. A further €5.600 in technical penalties is added: the employee lacked the mandatory health surveillance required to work.

Third intervention: two irregular employees and 40 euros in fines

The third Battipaglia business employed 23 people. Two were found not to be legally employed. Fines totaled approximately €4. The owner was also held accountable for a long list of safety violations: failure to comply with fire prevention regulations, unsanitary service areas, inadequate escape routes, failure to reduce the risk of electrocution, and a risk assessment document not updated following corporate changes. The charges also included a lack of health surveillance and a lack of adequate training, information, and education.

Nearly 40 euros in fines. The operation outline

The weekend of inspections confirms the Salerno ITL's stance on public establishments: undeclared work and safety go hand in hand. In addition to the immediate closure of establishments above the threshold, heavy fines and fines for immigration, workplace hygiene, fire prevention, and illegal video surveillance are also imposed. To reopen, the owners must first regularize their employment relationships and address the alleged violations.
