Almamegretta in Paestum. Sunset concert at Dum Dum Republic. Followed by Dj Set Andrea Cota aka Mondocane.
A sunset concert that is already expected to be a “cult” with a strong evocative component. A powerful voice that shakes the soul. One of the most intense and warm vocal timbres in Italian music. RAIZ and Almamegretta are back at Dum Dum Republic: a band that has written the history of great live performances at the most famous beach club on the Cilento Coast, giving spectacular concerts to the Dum Dum Lovers already in 2015 and 2016, when, singing “Yes I Know My Way” in the Alma version in a tribute to Pino Daniele facing the sea, they contributed to creating one of the most intense moments in the poetics of Dum Dum. Or the passionate duet with Fausto Mesolella at Locanda del Mare, the winter port of Dum Dum Republic.
The sound impact of the little Woodstock on the sea is ready to explode. Almamegretta will be the undisputed masters of the arena that rises on the sea, along the border line of the horizon, on Sunday 4 September at 18 pm, as part of the RoyMundo Festival, the event with the artistic direction of Roy Paci.
“On September 4th, 'our' gigantic, iconic Almamegretta are back in style with their new album. 'Ours' because now I feel like I'm from Paestum too”, he claims Roy paci, promoter together with Dum Dum Republic of the Festival that talks about contamination, inclusion, diversity, human rights and civil commitment.
Almamegretta are back with their new tour inspired by their latest album “SENGHE”, in addition to the most important songs from their repertoire that marked the sound revolution created by one of the most emblematic bands of the South, between sound experiments and dense lyrics. Singing that is a migratory synthesis, beyond the limits of physical and geographical space. No musical, cultural or ideological borders.
“Diversity has always been a source of wealth for us, because it helps us broaden our view of the world. – underlines Biancaluna Bifulco, owner of the Cilento beach club – Our strength is people and the bond with others, true, authentic, without prejudice or barriers. We believe in the beauty of the human being, in the uniqueness of each person and we try to convey our values, through music, the most universal of languages. This weekend will be a great celebration, because on our beach some of our dearest friends return, who have so many times trod the arena on the sea, giving us wonderful performances and magical sensations”.
On stage Raiz – vocals, Pier Paolo Polcari – keyboards, programming, Gennaro “T” Tesone – drums, Paolo Baldini – bass and programming, Fefo Forconi – guitar, Albino D'amato – live engineering.
Following, the DJ set by Andrea Cota aka Mondocane, a sophisticated music lover, who will fascinate the Dum Dum audience: his is a musical selection that ranges from soul to funk, to afrobeat, with a rare groove and a very tropical funk, in a disruptive mash up, which will make the vibrations of the floor explode on the sea, between world music and wild beat.
The profound lyrics, the direct, effective and engaging sound, as the band has accustomed us during its long activity, are the expression and fruit of collaborations that make “Senghe” a work with an international scope. Reggae and electronics blend with Mediterranean melody, tributes to the Neapolitan sound of the 70s, Africa and the Levant. The lyrics of the songs were written and composed by Almamegretta and Paolo Baldini, with the exception of three songs composed for them by Danilo Turco – “Figlio”, “Senghe”, “Sulo”, plus a cover of a song, “Na stella”, which was by the great Fausto Mesolella.
The languages used for the lyrics are Neapolitan, English, Hebrew – the linguistic heritage in their possession – and they form the sonic and emotional canvas that has always characterized this band.
Preceded by the release of the single and video “Figlio”, “Senghe” sees the artistic production of Paolo Baldini, one of the most sought-after professionals of European dub/reggae, who curated the entire work, as well as officially joining the band as bassist.
- Almamegretta are one of the most influential musical expressions of the last thirty years in Italy, with three Targhe Tenco to their name, a participation in the competition among the big names at Sanremo in 2013, eleven albums and thousands of concerts in Italy and Europe. With albums such as “Animamigrante”, “Sanacore”, “Lingo” they have marked the Italian music scene becoming at the same time among its most international representatives. Their style is based on a wide number of genres, from beat to Rhythm'n'Blues, from Reggae to Funk, up to electronic, world music and pop without obviously forgetting the dub matrix. Never stopped in the same place twice, the sound that made them famous in Italy and Europe has continuously evolved and moved in the direction of the artistic needs of the band and the lyrics, which has always been one of the cornerstones of their creativity.
