Celebration of art and words at the Gallerie d'Italia in Naples. Saturday, October 22, various moments of 'meeting' between artists and works.

To create a union between actors, musicians, dancers, on the one hand, and works of art, on the other; a creative and dialogic interaction between different artistic professional figures and the masterpieces collected in the spaces of the historic building of the former Banco di Napoli, in Via Toledo, in the capital of Campania, which will take place next Saturday, October 22.

Like the poetic thrust – El delantero omicidio by Igor Esposito – dedicated to Caravaggio and his Martyrdom of Saint Ursula, a glimpse into the life of Merisi entrusted to the ghostly voice of Peppino Mazzotta. It is one of the performances that the public will be able to attend in the singular event “Toledo d'Italia. Parole e Musica”, scheduled at the Gallerie d'Italia of Intesa Sanpaolo, a site-specific and multidisciplinary event.

Conceived and curated by director Francesco Saponaro with the artistic collaboration of the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory of Music, the cast brings together artists from multiple generations such as actors Fortunato Cerlino, Davide Mazzella, Peppino Mazzotta, Lino Musella, Tonino Taiuti, Ivana Maione and Federica Totaro, choreographer Susanna Sastro and dancer Gioele Barrella, pianist Mariano Bellopede, the vocal duo Ebbanesis and young musicians from the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory, directed by maestros Giuseppe Salime, Eugenio Ottieri, Fabio Menditto, Vincenzo Amabile, Giuseppe Grieco, Luca Signorini, Elio Martusciello.

Promoted by Intesa Sanpaolo and created by Agenzia Teatri in collaboration with Casa del Contemporaneo, the event brings together in a double sequence, at 11.30:17 and XNUMX:XNUMX, the performances of the artists called to bear witness to their special relationship with Naples and to the great civilization expressed by a 'world-city' in different eras.

“A few months after the opening of the new headquarters – comments Antonio Denunzio, deputy director of the Gallerie d'Italia-Naples – we open our doors with an event that, from via Toledo, invites citizens and tourists to enter the museum to live a unique experience, a celebration of the arts that is also a tribute to the city and to Neapolitan talent”. From Via Toledo a brass band will lead the audience to the golden staircase where a piano will accompany a contemporary dance solo to multiply in dynamic gesture the plastic muscular torment of the Farnese Atlas that welcomes visitors.

“It's the beginning – says Saponaro – of a path aimed at creating an emotional vibration between the masterpieces of the Gallerie d'Italia and the performances that move between music, acting and contemporary dance placed in relation, and also in contrast, with the spaces and works on display”.

There are different moments of 'meeting' between artists and works. Like the explosions of the psyche that transforms matter into fierce and painful passion. Busts, drawings, terracottas and bronzes, burning like the genius who modeled them. Around the sculptures the vibrant words of Wanda Marasco, like shreds and wounds, become the voice of an actor in the interpretation of Lino Musella, a reminder of the art and senseless life of Vincenzo Gemito, one of the most representative artists hosted by the Gallerie d'Italia in Naples.

Or like the appointment along the internal staircase of elegant light marble with rationalist lines: a row of mandolins and guitars, as in front of the Gulf sea, evokes in music distant journeys and seaside parties in a sequence of mandulinate 'a Napule.

And, yet another moment: the warm voices of Ebbanesis, Viviana Cangiano and Serena Pisa, traveling between villanelles, madrigals and classical songs revisited according to modern harmonic canons, quiver, innervating the rooms on the first floor. Their singing dialogues with the masterpieces of Neapolitan painting, from the Baroque to the late nineteenth-century landscape painting.
