Giugliano, inconvenience due to double shifts. Marconi school RSU writes to Manfredi. The building has been partially closed, inconvenience for 1500 students
“The workers of the G. Marconi high school in Giugliano in Campania, while renewing their trust in the new head teacher, Giuseppina Nugnes, express enormous concern for the future of the school.
The solution, identified by local institutions, to distribute students across four different locations in Giugliano and provide exclusively afternoon teaching activities, after just over a month of lessons, is already causing enormous inconvenience to everyone, school staff, students and families”.
This is what the RSU of the IS “G.Marconi” of Giugliano said in a letter sent to the mayor of the metropolitan city of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi.
“We reiterate our support for the school principal who has worked hard to allow the start of the school year for approximately 1500 students.
As school workers, we are aware of the role that education plays and the responsibilities we have as educators, however we believe that this solution cannot be defined as such, it is an accommodation that is already producing harmful effects: the flight to other institutes with numerous requests for authorization and the risk of a significant contraction in enrollments for the next school year", the note continues.
The building on Via Basile – which housed the Marconi Institute for decades – was declared partially unfit to house students last summer because it requires renovation work. The Metropolitan City has identified two private buildings in Giugliano (to be rented) that could house students until the works on the building on Via Basile are completed. But even in this case, some renovation work is needed, as defined during an inspection held last week.
Then the rental contracts will be signed. Teachers and parents are therefore worried: they fear that even after the Christmas break they will still be forced to work double shifts. But the metropolitan councilor Salvatore Cioffi is pouring oil on the fire: "We are on schedule. Barring unforeseen events, they will be respected".
